This game teaches involves logic and spatial visualization and is a lot of fun, especially with several players. It's appropriate for people of six years and up. Board games unite families and friends, and this is one of the best. Enjoy! You can play this game right out of the box without having to read several pages of instructions. It is so simple even my 4-year old grandson can play it, but adults love it because there are unlimited strategies for getting all your pieces in play and every game is different. It is just so much fun and I recommend it to everyone. It is a perfect gift too. Best game I've ever played. My daugher requested this for her 7th birthday. She started playing this game with her grandparents. Very education and fun for the whole family. We all play this game - even my preschooler - and have a blast. It can be played by two players, but all four colors need to be played so each person takes two colors. My kids don't like this much, but it goes okay for older kids and adults. Overall I recommend this game for anyone, especially people who love puzzles. I love this game. I wish my kids liked it more -- they do like it but not as much as I do. We had the original Blokus for several months and enjoyed it quite a bit, but you really need four players, and it was rare we had exactly that many wishing to play. You can play with fewer but only if one or more players plays two colors. The original doesn't work at all if you just leave one of the colors out. So Travel Blokus was a great addition -- it only has two colors and therefore can be played by just two people. So we have both -- the original for full family fun, and travel Blokus for when I can only talk ONE of my children into playing this with me. I will add that if you are a Blokus Master you will find that you need to retune your strategies for this game. The smaller board and fewer colors requires a different approach if you want to CRUSH YOUR OPPONENT. Or, you know, be able to defend yourself against a whiz-kid 8 year old. Grades K and up. Europe's 2003 game of the year! Develops logic and spacial perception while kids learn to be tactical. Players take turns placing pieces on their board, each starting from their corner. Each new piece must touch at least one other piece of the same color, but only at the corners! The goal is to get rid of all your pieces. The game ends when all players are blocked from laying down any more of their pieces. Includes one gameboard with 400 squares, 84 game pieces in four bright translucent colors, and an instruction guide. Fun for both kids and adults, Blokus is a strategy board game that challenges spatial thinking. Bright colors and simple rules make it ideal for ages five and up, but adults will certainly be engrossed by this unique and challenging game. Not Your Average Board Game Four players make this abstract game especially fast and exciting; however, it can be just as fun for two or three players. Blokus has come up with a number of different ways to play the game to make it more thrilling when playing with less than four players. Draft Blokus allows a player to use more than one color and Reverse Blokus reverses the entire game so that the person who places the least amount of tiles on the board is the winner. It can even be played in a solitaire version when one player attempts to place all of their pieces in a single sitting. A game of Blokus typically lasts a 30 minutes. As a practical feature, raised edges on the board help keep the tiles in place and allow convenient clean-up. This game includes 84 pieces in four vibrant colors, an instruction guide, and one gameboard with 400 squares. Blokus is simple to understand, but the game's complexity is revealed shortly after everyone begins to play. It can be addictive, even for those not normally into abstract games. Blokus is a catalyst for spatial thinking, as players form images in their mind before placing the pieces on the board. Children and adults can play together for hours of competitive family fun. As Europe's 2003 Game of the Year, Blokus is adored by many and even played in professional tournaments. What's in the Box

I'm not sure how original you can say the game is since it's like dice but I think it's a great spin on a classic I recently took a trip with my 7 year old nephew and while waiting for a delayed flight this game was handy. Small enough to fit in a mom's purse to take to long doctor visits, etc. This game is a change from the usual board games, Monopoly, Sorry, etc. It is both fun and educational. You join Lewis&Clark in exploring the unknown. The goals: map the rivers, make friends with natives, open the West to trade, and look for a Northwest Passage (an easy water route from coast to coast). I purchased this as a gift the receipent loves it and plays with it often. I bought this based on the dozens of glowing reviews here on Amazon, the wide age range (easy enough for my 7 year old), and the low purchase price (less than $10). The pigs are adorable and the self containing hard plastic packaging is much more durable than the cardboard boxes most games come with. I am sure this will accompany us on trips to the beach. That said, the game gets very repetitive fast. And by fast, I mean in the first 30 minutes of total game play. There are a limited number of rolls and they take place again and again until someone reaches 100. And since you can roll as many times as you want (unless you roll a pig out), it is possible for only one player to play for a whole game with nobody else having a turn. Yay. We will have to look for some alternative rules to spice things up. I have played this game for many years, but wanted to order a new set. What I discovered was apparently a bad design flaw in the pigs. The whole purpose of the game is when you roll the pigs you get points based on how they land. With this new set the pigs often landed in a position that was somewhere in between laying on their side and laying on their back. It appeared as if the tail was made wrong. The final landing position of the pigs means everything in the game and if you can't determine if you have "razorback" or if it's laying on its side, then it's useless. Amazon took the return with no problems whatsoever! For 2 or more players Go hog wild with the pig-tastic game, Pass the Pigs. Players attempt to rack up points by rolling the pig dice - but if they're not careful they might 'Pig Out' and lose all their points. Pass the Pigs is the sizzlin' fun, shakin' bacon game! How's your tolerance for puns? You'll need some for Pass the Pigs, a simple game of chance built around a pig theme. Instead of dice, you roll two cute pink piglets, and you gain or lose points depending on how the critters land. For example, if both land on all fours, called a "double trotter," you get 20 points; if they land lying opposite each other, called a "Pig Out," you gain no points and cede your turn. There are a number of other rules as well as a variation called "Hog Call." This would be a good travel game (the pigs, instructions, and scoring pad fit in a small, tidy box) or a fine present for someone who's, well, into pigs!--Elisa Murray Rerations < Pass the Pigs > < Left Center Right Dice Game > < SET Game > < Wild Planet Hyper Dash > < Pig Pile Card Game > freaks All new 4th Edition!!New Graphics!!New Card Art!!New Packaging&Tiles!!Full Color Rules Book < The Settlers of Catan > < The Settlers of Catan 5-6 Player Extension - New 4th Edition!!!!! > < Catan: Cities&Knights Expansion - New 4th Edition!!!!! > < Catan: Seafarers Game Expansion - New 4th Edition!!!!! > < Carcassonne Game > < Catan: Cities&Knights 5-6 Player Extension - New 4th Edition!!!!! > price:Mayfair Games(2007-11-08) Usually ships in 24 hours customer 's review (it's all in the strategy) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() (A Great Family Game) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() (Lots of fun) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() (An Almost Perfect Board Game) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() (It's a great game) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() We bought this game and instantly became fans. The game takes a lot of strategy and has elements of luck. You can change aspects of the game to make it different every time that you play. It is a great game to involve the family and my children like it as much as any computer game. There are little pieces and cards, so make sure to pick everything up when you finish. It's not good for the car, though I think they make some kind of travel version, but it's fine for travelling as long as you don't leave pieces in your wake. The game is an average length of time, aobut an hour or so. We'd be interested in buying other games from this maker. My daughter introduced our family to this game while on home from college. We've been playing it every weekend, including my 16 year-old son, my 19 year-old daughter, and my husband. If you use the random set-up, the game changes every time and poses new challenges. Having played both the older version and the new one I will say that I like the addition of the linking outer edges. They can be problematic though - mine tend to not lie perfectly flat and therefore don't hold the inside tiles together like they should. Also the old version had wooden dice, and the new one has very ugly bright red and yellow plactic dice - not sure what the point of that is when all the other game pieces are wooden or cardboard. The gameplay is amazing though, and the same for both versions. Every time I visit friends and family they require that I "bring Settlers!" I agree with all the other posts. Takes the best aspects of Diplomacy, Risk etc, but easier to learn, faster to play, and more interaction and fun. My neighborhood is now addicted, and my 9/8 year olds love to play as well. I highly recommend the Seafarers expansion. The Knights&Castles expansion makes it a much more complex game. If you have an older edition (3rd edition) of Settlers and then get a new 4th edition of the expansions, you will need to get the "upgrade kit" from the Mayfair Games site for $10. It is the frame of the board that fits together to form the water boundary. The older versions did not have this frame, and it makes the older and newer versions somewhat incompatible. It brings a lot of fun to me and my friends. It's a nice party game and the play time is not very long which is good so we can play multiple times in one party. One of the most successful games of all time, Settlers of Catan is a trading and building game set in the mythical world of Catan. Players roll dice to determine which resources are generated each round and then must strategically trade those resources with other players to get what they need to build their settlements, cities, and roads. With multiple ways to gain victory points and a board that changes in every play, Settlers of Catan is a game that can be played hundreds of different ways. The base of a hugely successful franchise, with multiple engaging expansions, Settlers is the core game of many collections, and is a wonderful way to spend time with family and friends. This has to one of the most simple yet intelligent games to play - as you have to think multi dimensionally - colors - shapes - numbers Pros: Flexible player numbers (from one to many, especially if you accommodate team play), allows all players to constantly be playing, portable, and simple to explain but hard to master. Cons: Plastic case could be hinged or otherwise latch close; the cards fall out very easily in a backpack. Great game, great price! The only problem is, once kids get the hang of it, they beat the adults! It's nice to see a game that works the brain so well appeal to kids. You need the right group of people to play with. Not everyone like this kind of games. I like it but my friends... sigh. This award winning card game is for one or more players. Ages 6 to adult. The objectof the game is to identify "sets" of three cards. Each card is unique in its four features: color (red, green or purple), symbol (diamond, squiggle or oval), shading (solid, striped or open), and number (1, 2 or 3). A "set" consists of three cards on which each feature is either the same on all of the cards, or different on all of the cards. This game contains complete instructions for play, 81 cards, and a durable plastic carrying case. SET is a card game of quick recognition and deduction. Each card contains one of three symbols (squiggles, diamonds, ovals) in varying numbers (up to three), colors (purple, green, red), and degrees of shading. A dealer arranges 12 cards, face up, and the players--without taking turns--hastily scrutinize the images for logical "sets" of three cards linked by combinations of sameness or difference. It's not as complicated as it sounds: examples include a trio of paired ovals with increasing levels of shading between cards, or disparate symbols in different colors which increase in number on each card (card one has a green squiggle, card two a pair of purple ovals, card three a trio of diamonds). The trick is to keep calm while trying to make the rapid connections. The Darwinian nature of the game (remember: everyone plays simultaneously) is certain to cause some feistiness among more competitive players.--Tom Keogh Rerations < SET Game > < Quiddler > < Blokus Strategy Board Game > < Blink Game > < Five Crowns > freaks America's #1 Brand of Family GameSee why this color coded card game is such a popular brand of family GameBe the first player or team to score 500 pointsPoints are scored by being the first to rid yourself of all the cards in your hand before your opponents < Uno Card Game > < Yahtzee > < Sorry! It is a great game for kids because it is not difficult at all. It is like Crazy 8s, only easier and more fun. You can play with 2 people or combine decks and play with lots of people. Uno is one of the most popular card games in the world, and it's easy to see why. The rules are simple, the play is always different, and there's an element of skill involved, which makes any game fun. The deck is made up of 4 different color suits, each of which has the numbers 0-9 and what I like to call "power cards". One of the power cards will reverse the order of play. Another will stop the next person from having their turn, and still another will not only stop the next person from having their turn, but it will force them to pick up 2 additional cards. Then there are two kinds of wild cards, one which simply represents any color. But the second kind of wild card not only forces the next player to lose his/her turn, but it also forces them to pick up 4 cards. These cards also can represent any color needed. To play, you must lay down your cards. How? Simple! Match either the color of number of the card played before you. If the color or symbol is right, you can play one of the colored power cards. If you have no moves, unleash one of the wild cards and change the color! All in all, Uno is a great game. It's great for speed, since Uno games usually don't last very long, and it's also just plain family fun. I would recommend Uno to anyone who likes a casual game. For all real card aficionados, I would recommend Phase 10, Skip-Bo, etc. as well. Uno belongs in any person's home if they like to have lots of fun with their family in the evening, on weekends, on holidays... or whenever they have time. My siblings, cousins, friends, and I used to love this game when we were kids. Well, just for kicks, I figured that I would buy the cards and "test" them on my 6 year old. I figured that maybe it would distract him from the television. He loved the game! It was easy for him to catch on and now he takes them to Granny's house to play with her. Yippee! Uno is back in my life again! We don't buy this game for educational value. We're all adults and frequently play one of several games, including UNO, in the evenings. UNO is a game the entire group enjoys. My only complaint is that the cards are of very low quality, and quickly become difficult to shuffle and deal after only a few weeks of play. I would love to see a version of this game for adults with higher quality cards. Uno is the exact same game as Crazy-8s, the classic card game played for years with a regular deck of playing cards. So, you don't actually need to purchase this deck of cards to enjoy this awesome game. Just look up the rules for Crazy-8's on the internet. And while you're at it, King's Corners and the "adult" version of Go Fish (also played with a regular deck) seem to appeal to the same age group of about age 5 to adult. And, by the way, I do love Uno/Crazy-8s and play it all the time with my kids. They learn matching, strategy, and, it's just lots of fun. I recommend it! P. Gould, author of Feeding the Kids: The Flexible, No-Battles, Healthy Eating System for the Whole Family America's number one card game, UNO offers hours of fun. It's easy to learn, always unpredictable, and never dull. It can be played with 2 to 10 players, individually, or in teams. And it can even be educational, teaching younger kids number recognition. We had so much fun that as soon as I got home, I went to Amazon to find it. My husband and son enjoy playing it with me. Even our 6 year old daughter plays (with a little help from her mom). I would definitely recommend this game to anyone who likes Scrabble or other word games. It's a good way to build your child's vocabulary. Even better, there are no little pieces to lose--it's just cards! For those who enjoy stretching their verbal abilities a little bit and doing puzzles, Quiddler is a great addition to the games closet. It is a quick learn, easy to play, and more accessible and portable than most other word games. Easy enough for children, clever enough for adults. I was introduced to this game by my daughter and son-in-law. After playing at their home, I had to purchase it for my own use. It is a fun, fast paced word game that helps to build vocabulary and spelling skills. I was very pleased with the quiddler card games that I ordered. Delivery was fast and the packaging was secure. Thank you. The challenge of Quiddler is to arrange your entire hand into words. Draw and discard in turn. Try to use those high point letters, but don't get caught with them uncombined! Quiddler is fast paced because you can play using everyday words. A bonus is given for the most words in each round (so little words can help you win), as well as for the longest word. Quiddler is a delightful challenge for both rookies and word game lovers. Quiddler is for up to eight players. The rules are brutal, but the rewards are worth it in this card game that works a bit like Scrabble. Although there is a solitary version of the game for one player, you can play with up to eight. Cards containing letters of the alphabet and special combinations of letters are dealt in increasing number each time the dealer completes a round. Once you've collected your share, you can discard and pick up a new card with each turn. The object is to turn all the letters in your possession into dictionary-proof words while leaving one stray card as a final discard. You want to be the first to accomplish the goal, of course, but there is a scoring system that makes the play competitive for everyone. One nice element is the cards themselves: the letter design is based on beautiful artwork from Celtic manuscripts.
